What strategies can be employed to effectively identify potential key employees?
We discuss the crucial process of identifying talent, setting guardrails, and effectively communicating your vision to elevate your business.
Invest in the Right Person
– Finding an employee who matches your dedication is challenging but possible. When you do find them, invest in their development. Recognize that your strengths may be their weaknesses and vice versa. This can create a balanced and cohesive team.
Set Clear Expectations
– Ensure you’re not overwhelming the new talent with unrealistic expectations. Provide clear guidelines, and let them do their thing while you support their growth. Regularly reevaluate their progress and guide them effectively.
Communicate Your Vision
– As an entrepreneur, your vision is unique and valuable. Don’t keep it locked in your head. Share it openly with your team. Effective communication ensures everyone is aligned and working towards the same goals, leading to collective success.
Understand that trust and delegation come with risks. Sometimes it may result in setbacks, but it often leads to significant high points and growth.

Welcome back to another edition of Living Fast Forward. Today, we're gonna talk about how do you identify the talent and the guardrails and the roles of the vision of your company and hiring that integrator to do those things.
Julie Smith [:That I just think it's a really hot topic that as you grow and scale your business, you're looking for that employee who will take ownership like you. And we realize that's really hard to find and you may go through 15 different reiterations. But at the end of the day, once you find that person, you've got to invest in them. You, you know, you've got to kinda set them free, understand both your strengths and weaknesses. Because usually when you find this person, my strengths aren't your strengths, but my weaknesses are often your strengths. And so how do you create a cohesiveness that allows that person to kind of excel?
Glenn Harper [:If you're trying to trust a somebody that can help take things off your the table, how do you go identify that, first of all? But then when you identify it, you just crush them because you have unrealistic expectations. It's a lot easier to bring them in, explain the situation, put the guardrails in, let them do their thing, and have a position where you can then reevaluate and help them along instead of just crushing them right away.
Julie Smith [:But I also think you once you get your hands on the correct person, they are they are willing. They are hungry.
Glenn Harper [:They gotta buy in.
Julie Smith [:You have the passion and the drive and the motivation determine all of those things to want to see your business succeed just as much as you do.
Glenn Harper [:But that's where it gets back in is as the owner, as the entrepreneur, you have to create that vision that says, this is what we wanna accomplish. Here's where everybody fits into this. Take this and go with it.
Julie Smith [:But I think the one thing is is I think entrepreneurs usually have that vision. It is in their head and they see it, but it never comes out and it's never communicated. And it's really hard for that key employee to be able to guess because they're if you cannot communicate it effectively, they're out there going, okay, it's down this path. Nope. We've done this path. So make sure that you're communicating. And if you change it, that's great.
Glenn Harper [:Perfectly normal.
Julie Smith [:But communicate.
Glenn Harper [:Remember, as an entrepreneur, you try to keep all those secrets in your head because you think somebody's gonna steal it. End of the day, nobody is you. You have your unique superpower. So just let it out there and let it go and tell everybody what what you think you're thinking and how this thing turns out. You'll be surprised the amount of feedback you'll get and the success you'll have.
Julie Smith [:When I think that fear, you know, that fear of like, well, if I tell someone they're going to take it and use it, I think, you know, even for us, like, we've had to remind ourselves, no one is us. Nope. And no one can do what we do and how we do it. Everyone can go try and put their own flare on it. We're more than happy about that. There's enough room at a round table for everyone's success. But at the end of the day, in order to grow scale, find that person, you have to trust and delegate. And hey, sometimes that means getting hurt, but sometimes that also means flying high.
Glenn Harper [:It's the only way to roll.
